Ullr Fest Parade

The annual Ullr Fest Parade is one of Breckenridge's most popular events! The parade is just part of the overall Ullr Fest celebration (January 26-31, 1998).

Ullr Fest is a celebration of Ullr, the Norse god of snow. According to legend, Ullr, the step-son of Thor, left Yew-Dale (home of the Scandinavian gods) and wandered the earth, apparently settling in the Upper Blue Valley near Breckenridge! The purpose of Ullr Fest is to pay homage to Ullr, and to encourage him to bless our area with abundant snow.

All photos taken on 1/29/98. Just a few of the 15,000 spectators that lined Main Street.

One size helmet fits all! Baby Ullr seems to be enjoying the show.

This float won first place. Entitled "Dragon Chasing Ullr," it had blazing red eyes, a moving head that spewed smoke, and it produced snowballs from the opposite end! Ullr (not Santa) appears on the right side of the photo.
