Hiking to Lily Pad Lakes
This hike is short and easy, yet very pretty!
- Round trip hiking time is less than 2 hours
- Trailhead starts from Wildernest Road in Silverthorne
- Drive time from Breckenridge: less than 30 minutes
- Great hike for beginners, or those not yet acclimated to
the altitude
- Elevation change is only 120 feet

All photos taken on 7/12/98. Here we see Bear combining two of
his favorite activities: chasing sticks and swimming.

Teresa, Bear, and
Reba stroll through the lodgepole pines along the base of the
12,777 foot Buffalo Mountain, at the southern end of the Gore
Range. (Last year, we took a hike up Mount Quandary
in the Ten Mile Range.)

It didn't take long to get to the first of the two lakes. Bear is
an old hand at swimming, but little Reba is pretty new at it. She
panics and paddles so furiously with her front paws that she's
often more vertical than horizontal!
